The gallery exhibits mainly woodblock prints (18th and 19th c. Ukiyo-e, and 20th c. Shin-Hanga and Sosaku-Hanga),
and paintings, lacquers, ceramics for the Tea Ceremony, bronzes, dating from the 16th to the 20th century.
The gallery sells exclusively original pieces selected for their
quality and authenticity.
The gallery organizes each year several exhibitions,
and publishes at least one catalog per year mainly dedicated to Ukiyo-e and Shin-Hanga prints of which Tanakaya is a recognized specialist.
.
Tanakaya participates in several international fairs, notably TEFAF, in Maastricht, since 2010, and Brafa in Brussels since 2004,
being the first gallery to exhibit Japanese prints in these fairs.
In Paris,
it participated in the "Biennale des Antiquaires", the "Salon
International de l'Estampe" and "Fine Arts Paris".
For many years, the gallery has contributed to enriching the collections of several important collectors
and renowed museums, including the Guimet Museum in Paris, for Japanese prints, and in Tokyo the National Museum of Western Art, for works of Japonism.
The gallery also had the pleasure of
participating
in
the constitution of the Japanese fund of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum.
The gallery is also devoted to the works of modern Japanese artists from the Ecole de Paris of the 1920s and 30s, such as Foujita Tsuguharu and Hasegawa Kiyoshi,
as well as those of painters who lived and worked in
France in the 1950s and 60s, such as Sugai Kumi,
Domoto Hisao or Sato Key.
